The Hidden Job Market

Did you know that there is a hidden job market? If you're not out actively networking with people, you wouldn't! An excellent read: Cracking the Hidden Job Market by Donald Asher. Networking involves getting out of your comfort zone. To do it well, you need to have your elevator pitch polished and ready to go.


Flashiness is often inversely correlated to substance. As with so many other things in life, K.I.S.S.! Make sure to include a brief summary statement—the "you in a nutshell"—along with a listing of your skills highlights.


While you should never arrive late for an interview, showing up early is almost as bad! It's disruptive: you could be interrupting someone's lunch or arriving during an earlier meeting. If you insist on being early, make it no more than five minutes.
